SAN ANTONIO NAMED UNESCO CREATIVE CITY OF GASTRONOMY -

San Antonio has been inducted into the Creative Cities Network of the United Nations

Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The Alamo City has been officially dubbed a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, the practice or art of choosing, cooking, and eating good food.

San Antonio is only the second city in the United States to earn this distinction, and it is the first in Texas to receive such a title. This internationally recognized designation comes as the result of a collaborative community effort, and it honors San Antonio’s uniquely diverse heritage.

Built on the traditions of Mexican, Spanish, German, and French cultures, San Antonio offers a one-of-a-kind culinary scene with bold flavors. Seasoned chefs and up-and-coming culinary innovators work together to blend classic dishes from these countries with new cooking

techniques. These experts in the kitchen have mastered the ability to merge old family recipes and new ideas, resulting in delicious dishes bursting with originality.

The city's geography has also played a role in creating the unique flavors of San Antonio

cuisine. It impacts what ingredients can be grown or sourced locally for chefs to utilize. Of

course, modern irrigation, land development, and cultivation techniques can be used to enhance existing environmental factors. But as previously stated, San Antonio is a city proud of its history and rooted in tradition. Our ancestors cultivated their crops according to local, natural resources, and we've carried their eating habits on through the generations.

Many influential factors have played a part in cultivating the rich, diverse, inspired food of San Antonio.

People who grew up in this city have been surrounded their entire lives by these fresh

ingredients, bold flavors, and ingenious restaurateurs. Ask any San Antonian, and they will

gladly tell you about their favorite local foodie experiences that can't be enjoyed anywhere else in the world. From our famous breakfast tacos to brats and fine dining dishes, there are countless San Antonio specialties to enjoy.

It is easy to see why San Antonio was bestowed the honor of joining UNESCO's Creative Cities Network.

When visitors explore the Alamo City, they can expect an original dining experience at a variety of local eateries. From high-end restaurants to food trucks, you can't go wrong with San Antonio cuisine.

Meanwhile city residents can rest easy knowing unique, locally sourced and produced meals

and ingredients are always readily available for purchase.

San Antonio has been internationally recognized as a Creative City of Gastronomy, and we will continue to live up to the reputation such an honor belies. Our proud heritage, innovative personalities, and passionate artistry will continue to shine through our food.

If you're looking for your next foodie vacation, or just searching for a tasty bite to eat in a place nearby, San Antonio is the destination for you.

We have family friendly restaurants as well as intimate eateries perfect for Valentine's Day with your sweetie. Whatever your heart desires, San Antonio has a unique culinary experience you're sure to love.

Visit San Antonio, and experience our celebrated cuisine for yourself!
